Communicating in contextual ignorance

چکیده

When A utters a declarative sentence in context to B, typically can mean proposition by the sentence, literally expresses (i.e. has truth-condition), there are propositions and B agree expressed, acquire knowledge from this testimonial exchange. In recent work on linguistic communication, each of these four platitudes been challenged, same basis: viz. ground that exactly which expressed is not discernible given information provided context. I argue that, even if true, will be propositional parts identified consequently, partial understanding afforded existence such identifiable undermines soundness arguments against platitudes.

Communicating Clauses: Towards Synchronous Communication in Contextual Logic Programming

Communicating clauses are proposed as an extension to contextual logic programming aiming at specifying the synchronous communication between agents, described here as units. The expressiveness of the extended framework is argued through the coding of producer/consumer schemes and several applications combining the logic and object-oriented styles of programming. Operational and declarative sem...

Circumscriptive Ignorance

In formal systems that reason about knowledge, inferring that an agent actually does not know a particular fact can be problematic. Collins [l] has shown that there are many different modes of reasoning that a subject can use to show that he is ignorant of something; some of these, for example, involve the subject reasoning about the limitations of his own information-gathering and memory abili...

Ignorance in the Relational Model

We hypothesize that an extensionwith-conditioning of Dempster-Shafer theory is suitable for encoding uncertainty and ignorance in the Relational Model. We present a formal and well-motivated definition of conditioning, and show the spirit of the required change in the Relational Model and some results that then follow. It remains to be investigated whether these results are satisfactory.

Does ignorance of the whole imply ignorance of the parts?

In this appendix, we provide a detailed derivation of our results. To this end, we first provide some more detailed background on the entropic quantities we use in Section I. In Section II we show that the splitting inequality (16) is satisfied in any deterministic non-contextual hidden variable model (NC-HV model for short). This is a minor twist on the existing classical proof [1] due to Wull...
